North East India is a place of magnificent misty mountains, green valleys, thick forests and warm people. Our tour will lead you, step by step, in order to discover all the treasures of these picturesque mountain ranges.First on our list is – Calcutta or Kolkata, once a British-India capital. Now it’s the proud intellectual capital of India, with a rich contemporary cultural life. You’ll go for a walking and sightseeing tour through Kolkata to discover some of the lesser known areas of this city. You’ll visit the Victoria Memorial. It’s a British attempt to create a replica of Taj Mahal in the honour of the Queen.Then, you’ll go to the National Library where you can find many rare, ancient books.Next on our list is the South Park Street Cemetery, one of the oldest non-church cemeteries in the world.Marble Palace is one of the best preserved monuments in Kolkata a home to many magnificent sculptures and paintings.

At the end of our Kolkata tour, you’ll go to the hearthwarming Mother Theresa Home – the residence of one of the most iconic women of India.Darjeeling is a place famous for its tea production and wonderful tea gardens, but even more important is the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, UNESCO’s World Heritage site. It is fondly called the ‘Toy train’. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a train ride, an amazing experience that gets you closer to the Himalayas. It is also one of the most popular educational centres in the country because of its many British style public schools.

Here, you’ll enjoy a fabulous sunrise view on the Tiger hill, the highest point at Darjeeling.You’ll go to the picturesquely situated Tibetan Refugee Selfhelp Centre, where the 13th Dalai Lama spent some time. This visit will give you the insight into the everyday life of its warm and colourful local people.This pilgrimage tour will take you to some of the most sacred religious spots such as the monasteries of Sikkim and Gangtok. You’ll enjoy the raw, intact beauty of Northeast India scenery.

Gangtok is a home to Institute of Tibetology, a must visit for all who want to know more about the Tibetan culture. You’ll go to the Hanuman Tok, the hill station with exciting aerial view at Gangtok and its surroundings. Northeast India with its breathtaking scenery is a peaceful and idyllic spot, perfect for a holiday.

On arrival in Kolkata: Company representatives cannot come into the baggage collection area. After you have cleared immigration, collected your luggage and passed through customs, please make your way towards the exit of the terminal building where you will see a bank of people waiting for you. Amongst them will be a Spirit Journeys representative who will be waiting to greet you with a paging board with your name on it. Please, note that the crowds can be enormous and it is possible that you may not spot our representative, despite their best efforts to be as visible as possible, so please keep an eye out for them. On arrival, a representative will meet you and transfer to airport hotel. Your travel documents will be handed over to you on arrival. Rest of day is at leisure. Optional tours can be booked.

After breakfast, enjoy walking tour of Kolkata. Discover some of the lesser known areas of Kolkata. Begin your sightseeing with the Victoria Memorial [Closed on Monday]  – an imposing monument of glittering white marble, recognized as the symbol of Kolkata. Then, continue to the National Library where you can find books which are ancient, out of print or simply difficult to locate nowadays. Next, go to the South Park Street Cemetery, the Marble Palace and at the end of the tour, Mother Theresa Home.

After breakfast, a Spirit Journeys representative will meet you and transfer to Kolkata Airport for your flight to Bagdogra.

Early this morning, enjoy a  wonderful sunrise view at the Tiger hill, the highest point at Darjeeling. En route to hotel, visit the Ghoom Monastery. After this exciting experience, return to the hotel for breakfast. Later on, visit the Tibetan Refuge Centre (Closed on Sunday).

After breakfast, take a joy ride on the famous Darjeeling heritage ‘toy train’ to Ghoom and back, the most popular tourist attraction in Darjeeling. Later, visit the Tukvar Tea Estate, one of the first commercial tea gardens established in the region famous for Darjeeling tea. Rest of the day is at leisure to relax at the hotel.
